Geinor Styles

Geinor was born in Merthyr Tudful and attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen.

In 1988 she spent the summer teaching drama in California, and then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to study stage management. Geinor graduated in 1991 and worked with Dalier Sylw before joining Theatre West Glamorgan as their resident stage manager.

In 1996 she was given the opportunity to direct Spam Man the award-winning play written by Dafydd Llewelyn at the National Eisteddfod in Bala. Following the success of the production she was invited to direct the Theatre in Education productions at Theatre West Glamorgan, now Theatr na nÓg. In 1998 she became the company’s artistic director and has directed over 30 Theatre in Education shows and 10 UK Tours., which includes Tom – The Story of Tom Jones, and Eye of the Storm which she co-wrote with Amy Wadge and toured the UK. Her play about Alfred Russel Wallace has been performed all over the world including Rio de Janeiro, Singapore and most recently in Makassar 2019.

During Covid -19 Geinor produced and directed online plays for Theatr na nÓg’s audiences and developed new productions for theatre, radio, film and TV.

In 2020 Geinor’s vision of a Consortiwm Cymraeg was initiated to develop Welsh speaking audiences in valley towns in South Wales. The partnership funded by Arts Council of Wales is a partnership with Theatr Soar, The Welfare Hall Ystradgynlais and Awen Cultural Trust. Their first production Shirley Valentine played to sell out performances throughout Wales to 2250 people, this was followed up with the first Welsh translation of The Woman in Black – Y Fenyw Mewn Du

Geinor is a playwright and has written 16 plays for the Company. Her most recent play is Operation Julie which is a co-production with Aberystwyth Arts Centre and will retour to venues in Wales and England this Spring.

Geinor was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2019.

She lives in Cardiff with her husband, Eric, and her two children Elliot and Gabriel and their dog Ralff.
