The Congress Theatre is a Community Theatre Venue, offering a place for local amateur and dance societies to perform and the opportunity for local residents to see professional touring Theatre at affordable prices. We hold lunchtime concerts, which are aimed at disadvantaged community groups, such as the elderly and people with learning difficulties. We have our own thriving Youth Theatre with 120 members aged between 8-18 who learn about all the crafts of theatre and put on 2 major productions a year. We also host the local schools choral festival, school performances and music examinations. The Congress Theatre is a place where people interested in Theatre can come and volunteer to help the theatre run and to meet new like minded people. Our volunteer training programme, allows us to engage with socially excluded people and help build their confidence and social skills, as well as gain knowledge of the theatre.
We programme a variety of work from local Dance Schools, drama groups to tribute acts and professional comedians and pantomime.
